Membership Classifications

Membership Classifications


Membership Classifications include all professional sectors of the death care industry. They include: cemeteries, crematoria, funeral homes, funeral transfer services, monument retailers, casket retailers, industry suppliers, industry consultants, and affiliated death care industry associations. They are defined as follows:

Regular Member

A Regular Member is an individual, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, association, or society who is actively engaged as a Bereavement Sector Establishment, inside or outside the Province of Ontario.
In the instance where an individual, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, society or association operates and maintains more than one Bereavement Sector Establishment, he, she must register with the Association, all Bereavement Sector Establishments owned, operated and maintained within the Province of Ontario by the individual, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, society, or association, and the multiple locations shall be deemed to be a single member by definition. Representatives of Regular Members may hold office, serve on committees, and are entitled to vote on Association matters. The member name, full address, contact numbers and contact name are included in the Contact A Member section of the Membership Directory.

Supplier Member

A Supplier Member is an individual, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, association or society who is actively engaged in producing or supplying products or services and/or is actively engaged in rendering, performing or selling professional consultative services used in the operation or maintenance of a Bereavement Sector Establishment, inside or outside the Province of Ontario. Supplier Members may hold office, serve on committees, and are entitled to vote on Association matters. Advertisements in the hyperlink section of the website Membership Directory are included with your membership fee. The corporate name, full address, contact numbers and contact name are included in the Contact A Member section of the Membership Directory. A monument retailer and casket retailer shall be considered a Supplier Member and shall receive all the privileges therein contained.

Affiliate Organization Member

An Affiliate Organization Member is an an organization, proprietorship, partnership, corporation, association, or society not actively engaged in the ownership, operation, maintenance, or supply a Bereavement Sector Establishment, but actively engaged in the bereavement sector. This category may include but not be limited to: bereavement or grief counselling organizations, hospice or palliative care organizations, industry associations, etc.. Affiliate Organization Members are not entitled to hold office or vote on Association matters, but may serve on committees. The Affiliate Organization Member’s name, full address, contact numbers and contact name are included in the Contact A Member section of the Membership Directory.

Affiliate Individual Member

An Individual Affiliate Member shall be an individual who not actively working in the bereavement sector but who was previously employed or engaged in the bereavement sector. This category may include but not be limited to: retired or former Bereavement Sector employees or licenced individuals not presently working in the sector.

Student Member

A Student Member is an individual currently enrolled in an accredited educational institution in an area of study relevant to the bereavement sector, recognized by the OACFP. A Student Member must apply for membership annually and provide proof of student status at such time. Student Members are not entitled to hold office or vote on Association matters, but may serve on committees.

Honourary Life Member

An Honourary Life Member shall be an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the Association, has been recommended by the membership, and approved by the Board. A Life Membership will include all the privileges of a member in good standing of the Association and are entitled to hold office, serve on committees, or vote on Association matters.

Non-Transfer of Memberships The interest of a Member of the Association will be transferable only with the consent of the Board of Directors expressed by a resolution thereof.
